A Legacy of Love
Vera Carpenter
Like most from her
generation,
Vera led a
hardworking life;
She mothered three
good children,
And to Jack was a
fine wife.
Vera loved to cook
and sew;
And southern gospel
was her choice;
She once led singing
in a little church,
Did you know she had
such a voice?
Her passion was to go
fishing,
She could really reel
‘em in;
She knew how to clean
and fry,
Right along with the
rest of the men.
She made her children
work and mind,
Or they knew they’d
get a spanking;
But that’s because
she was a good mother,
And today her
children are thanking.
She nicknamed both of
her son-in-laws
Shorty and Grouch,
they admit;
Vera was a woman, who
loved to travel,
She just wouldn’t
give up and sit.
Eighty-three years
she lived her life,
Being frugal and
working hard;
A few days ago God
called her home,
She went on to be
with the Lord.
A lady of strength
and character,
She left a legacy of
memories to embrace;
Yes Vera will be
missed down here,
But she’s in Heaven
by God’s saving grace.
