BILL’S BELONGINGS (for Sue)
The time has come to say good-bye,
as heavenly sleep closes eyes,
To wake again in God’s great home,
where His children gather around the throne.
Now he is there safely gone,
and I here sing the mourners song;
For though I’m happy for where he is,
I am so reminded of where he lived.
Surrounding me are memories fond,
in the green house where he lived so long;
There he shared a life with Mae,
and loved her till his dying day.
The hats he wore o’er his balding head,
the suspenders hanging there near his bed;
The chair he sat in to watch T.V.,
And on the wall, pictures of me -
Always dapper, dressed so neat,
He was never one to stay in his seat;
For though his driving wasn’t quite up to par,
You couldn’t keep him out of that gray car.
And thousand memories flood my mind,
When I gaze around at what he left behind;
The glasses, the cane, the pocket book,
A black Bible where he learned to look.
But my tears will dry, I’ll be fine,
For this grief will pass in God’s good time;
Then I’ll look up where he is today,
At home in Heaven where we’ll go someday.
